A Black Woman Exploring Barcelona’s Highlights

Have you ever wondered what it’s like for a Black woman exploring Barcelona? Let me take you through my unforgettable day in this beautiful city.

The Start of a Black Woman Exploring Barcelona

The day began with the sun just starting to peek over the horizon as we disembarked from our MSC cruise. The excitement was real, y’all. We decided to hop on a city shuttle for only €4 each—a total steal compared to the €10 one-way cruise shuttle bus voucher. Before we knew it, we were in the heart of Barcelona, ready to take on the day. Adventure mode: activated!

Mapping Out The Day

With a whole day ahead of us, flexibility was the name of the game. We grabbed some hop-on hop-off bus tickets as a backup plan, just in case the train stations weren’t close by. With those in hand, we were ready to explore the city at our own pace, no stress, no rush.

The Magic of La Rambla

Our first stop? The iconic La Rambla. Getting there early was clutch—it was so peaceful before the crowds hit. We made a quick pit stop at a local pharmacy (because, girl, essentials) and then treated ourselves to breakfast empanadas at Artisa Barcelona café. When I say those empanadas were everything, I mean it! Crispy, flavorful, and just what we needed to kickstart the day.

Savoring Local Flavors as a Black Woman Exploring Barcelona

After breakfast, we found ourselves wandering into La Boquería a vibrant indoor tourist market. The place was alive with color and flavor, and we couldn’t resist sampling all the local treats. It was a full-on foodie experience, and I was living for it!

Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Fun

Next up, it was time to put those hop-on hop-off bus tickets to good use. The attendants at the bus stops were super helpful, printing our tickets and making sure we knew which bus to catch. The service was top-notch, with clear blue and red routes that made getting around a breeze. It’s the perfect way to see all the best sights in Barcelona without any hassle.

Lunchtime Love at Bardeni Meat Bar

By lunchtime, we had found our way to Bardeni Meat Bar—a hidden gem, let me tell you! This place is reservation-only, and the vibe inside was everything. Think Michael Jordan memorabilia, boxing posters, and Dragon Ball Z art, all while Bruno Mars played in the background. It’s just a block away from the stunning Sagrada Família, making it the perfect spot to chill and refuel.

A Black Woman’s Take on the Sagrada Família

Then came the highlight of the day—the Sagrada Família. Walking inside felt like stepping into another world, y’all. The tall columns looked like trees, and the way the light poured through those stained glass windows? Magical. The intricate designs, with animals and garden imagery, captured the harmony between man and nature. It was breathtaking in every sense of the word.

Wrapping Up the Day

As the day started winding down, we tried to catch the train back to the bus, but missed it by just a few seconds. No worries though—we grabbed a taxi and took in some last-minute sights on the way back to the port. It was the perfect end to an incredible day.

Barcelona, you were a dream! From the food to the sights, this city has it all. So, if you’re planning your own adventure from the MSC cruise port, trust me, every moment is worth it.
