Disembarking at the port in Marseille felt like stepping into a postcard. We took a leisurely 10-minute stroll to catch a free shuttle to the city center, passing a quaint little fish market near the harbor. The market was buzzing with life, with with vendors proudly showing off their fresh catches. The air was a delightful mix of salty sea breeze and the mouth-watering aroma of seafood waiting to be snapped up.

Marseille is a maze of hills and narrow streets, each turn revealing a new secret. We kicked off our adventure by winding through these charming alleys, soaking in the historic architecture and the vibrant street life. The local shops, cafes, and bakeries were irresistible, each one a siren call luring us in to explore further.

What’s for lunch?

Scooting through Marseille offers a unique and exciting way to see the city’s sights. Our journey took us uphill to Sepia, a tiny yet incredibly cozy restaurant perched on a hill. This gem offered a much-needed break from our urban trek. Despite its size, Sepia was brimming with rustic charm and a menu full of local delicacies. We feasted on tartare and regional dishes, each bite a testament to the love and authenticity poured into the food. And the views? Absolutely stunning, with the city sprawled out below us like a living painting.

Seeing the sites

With our bellies full, we set off to visit the famous Our Lady of the Guard statue. The site had a beautiful 360-degree view of Marseille. The panoramic scene was breathtaking, a perfect blend of historic buildings and modern architecture stretching to the horizon.

Next on the itinerary was the Abbey of St. Victor, a historic landmark that’s as serene as it is popular. The walk there was refreshing, taking us through shaded pathways that provided a welcome respite from the sun. The abbey itself exuded tranquility, with its intricate architecture and peaceful ambiance offering a perfect spot for some reflective downtime away from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Our exploration didn’t stop there. We ventured into the old neighborhood, a vibrant area packed with narrow streets adorned with graffiti and art. Each street was like a gallery, with colorful murals and artistic expressions turning the whole neighborhood into a visual feast. Small shops lined the streets, each one offering unique finds, from handmade crafts to vintage treasures, adding to the area’s eclectic charm.

To cover more ground and soak in the city’s essence, we rented scooters. Zipping through Marseille’s vibrant streets on scooters was nothing short of exhilarating. It gave us a sense of freedom and adventure, allowing us to navigate narrow alleys with ease and uncover the city’s hidden gems. The scooters added a playful twist to our journey, making it an unforgettable experience.

This adventure in Marseille was the perfect blend of cultural exploration, culinary delights, and scenic views. It nourished our inner spirit and left us with memories that will last a lifetime, capturing the city’s unique charm and character. Marseille, with its vibrant streets and rich history, is a city that truly speaks to the soul.
