Let me take you on a wild journey through the unpredictable weather of Iceland. So, picture this: we’re just a stone’s throw away from our cozy Airbnb, but it feels like we’ve been on the road for ages. Iceland’s weather is notorious for its crazy mood swings—one moment it’s raining, the next it’s snowing, and then suddenly, it’s clear skies all around. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions!

Despite the crazy weather and a few wrong turns, we finally found our way to the road leading to our Airbnb. But here’s the kicker—the road was buried under a thick blanket of snow. At that point, I was ready to call it quits, but little did I know, our adventure was just getting started.

We debated trying to drive our Volkswagen up the snowy hill, but the fear of getting stuck won out. Luckily, our friends in the other car decided to give it a shot. They made it partway up before getting stuck, but with some quick thinking and a lot of determination, they managed to get themselves out of trouble.

As the sun started to set and the storm picked up, panic started to set in. We had to get to our Airbnb, or we’d be spending the night in the car. So, my boyfriend and I decided to hike up the hill while our friend stayed behind with the car. It was a nerve-wracking decision, but we had to try.

Gathering our gear and stuffing as many groceries as we could into our backpacks, we set off on foot. The journey was tough, with one misstep causing me to fall into a snowdrift. But with my boyfriend’s help, I managed to pull myself out.

Finally, we reached the Airbnb, but our relief was short-lived when we discovered that the lockbox with the keys was frozen shut. We huddled behind the house, taking turns using our glove warmers to thaw the box. After what felt like an eternity, we finally managed to get the keys and let ourselves in, safe from the storm raging outside.
